A small amount of a cartel drug is seized in Oregon--enough to kill everyone in Portland

In a minor li'l nuffin,' cops in Portland made a drug bust on Interstate-5, netting 90 pounds of meth, 4 pounds of heroin, and 11 pounds of...c'mon, pipo, you can do dis!  What did dey find 11 pounds of, eh?

If you pay attention you know it's likely fentanyl.  (And it was.)  What almost certainly you don't know is, if just 11 pounds of the stuff was divided into doses large enough to kill half of those who take it, how many pipo could that kill?

Oh wait, I forgot: If you're a Democrat a) you know your kids are far too smaht to take fentanyl, so dis not a problem for yew; and b) you don't know how to do the maff anyway.  Cuz maff beez raaacis, eh?

Of course duh problem here is that the cartels are now lacing lots of fun, innocent, unharmful pills--stuff your kids do take.  And the lethal dose of fentanyl for half those who take it ("LD50") is...two milligrams.

How much is that, you ask?  Well, a pack of splenda is one gram, which as every reasonably well educated American should know is 1000 mg.  So if you'd like to give your kids a useful demo, try this:  Open a packet of Splenda and pour it on a glass tabletop.  Use a credit card to push it into a two-inch square, as level as possible.

Now take a knife blade and divide the square into ten columns.  Then turn the knife 90 degrees and cut one of the end columns into ten equal parts.  One of those little bits is ten milligrams--which is five times the amount needed to kill half those who take it.

Now: a pound is 453.6 grams.  Eleven pounds is just short of 5,000 grams, so five million milligrams.  That's enough to kill half of a group of 2,500,000 people (2mg is LD50).

If you think we're not at war, you're not paying attention.
