Snapchat to lay off 20% of its employees. But do NOT say we're in a recession, citizen.
(CNN)-- Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, announced plans to lay off some 20% of its global employees.
The news comes as broader economic conditions have deteriorated in recent months amid rising inflation and the Federal Reserve's interest rates hikes. The recent market downturn has especially pummeled the tech sector, where news of hiring freezes, layoffs, and other cost-cutting measures have dominated headlines for months.Snap's CEO Evan Spiegel announced the news Wednesday, saying the company is restructuring to focus on "strategic priorities" like "community growth" and "revenue growth."
Yep, dat sounds really "strategic" all right. And SO focused! As the media cliche goes, "community growth" sounds almost "laserlike" in its focus!
See, as all sophisticated Americans know, every business
routinely fires 20% of its workforce when the leaders decide the
business needs to focus--laserlike--on "strategic priorities" like
"community growth," eh? Cuz what could be more important than
"community growth," right? Well, other than diversity, equity and
inclusion. And hiring trannies to top decision-making positions, of
course.
Oh, and repeat after me: "We are NOT in a recession," citizens! No no no no! You are instructed to ignore the old, inadequate definition of two consecutive quarters of contracting GDP. Under the faaabulous leadership of Janet Yeltsin and Dear Leader that is no longer the standard! And if anyone tries to say we're in a recession, you'll have your social media account cancelled!
Because as you surely understand, your government and our friends at social media simply can't permit "disinformation," comrade citizen!
