A new piece of modern sculpture has joined the classics in Florence. Why?

The main square of Florence, Italy, is home to some of the most inspiring and uplifting statues on Earth.  But some cunning city official has apparently taken a bribe to allow this collection to be...um...modernized, so to speak.

You can see the result below.  It's 40 feet tall, and locals say it looks like a pile of excrement from a giant robot.

Question:  Who in their right mind would think this is inspiring?  How about "uplifting"?  Inspirational?  No?  Well some official approved the thing.  And maybe a foot-tall version might be tolerable.  But 40 feet??  Someone definitely took a bribe.

And just FYI:  Items 22 and 23 from the 45 Goals of Communism are:
   22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
   23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

I suspect communism is happy to degrade all types of art no matter the country.  After all, if all public art becomes this ugly, no one can be inspired by the stuff.  In which case maybe they'll be more likely to look to, oh, say, communism as some weird inspiration.
