Re the unexplained drones over New Jersey

I've been watching the public panic in New Jersey and NY over the mysterious drone formations.  At the moment there are three theories:  First is that they're operated by a foreign power.  Yeah, no.

Let me explain: I'm an ex-Air Force pilot--light and heavy jets, light and massive helicopters.  Tons of experience.  And an extensive engineering background.  So if you wanna disagree, I'm delighted.

So...foreign power is highly unlikely, because if you're launching and recovering battery-powered drones from a ship, the best battery-powered drones don't have enough endurance and range.

Second theory is that they're aliens.  Hey, Orson Wells radio show, Grover's Mill, New Jersey, eh?  Perfect.

Last theory is that they're operated by "your" government.  This is by far the most plausible...but then the question is, why didn't the biden regime announce they were gonna conduct a test or exercise, to avoid exactly the kind of panic we're seeing?

One possible explanation--advanced by commenters, not me--is that the regime wants to test how the public will react to vaguely mysterious phenomena like this.  This seems highly unlikely, because what White House handler would approve this when it obviously makes the biden regime look inept or worse?

Rule #1 is don't lose any more votes for the mid-terms, eh?  Same argument applies if the DoD just wanted to test a new system on a large scale: they'd do it over the vast wastes of New Mexico, not one of the most densely-populated regions of the country.

That leaves another alternative: It's NOT an exercise, but an operational mission.  The regime hasn't said anything because saying anything opens 'em up to hundreds of knowledgeable people pointing out the discrepancies, showing it's a lie.  So it's better to say nothing.

But if it's a real mission, what are they trying to find?  To answer that, a guy who describes himself as an "RF engineer" ("radio frequency"--meaning all electromagnetic waves) says he knows.  He was on X as "JerseyFutures" (now deleted) and claims the drones are all "HPGe" drones, designed to detect...wait for it...gamma rays.

"HPGe" stands for "high-purity germanium detectors," and they're all over the literature.  Their original purpose was to monitor plumes of radiation after a nuclear meltdown, as after the earthquake that took out four Japanese nuclear reactors at Fukushima.  The weight of the payload (the detector and normal liquid nitrogen cooling system) explains the reported large size of the drones: if this was being done by a group of hobbyists having fun spoofing the snowflakes they wouldn't need to go to the (huge) extra expense of buying such large drones.

Why the interest in gamma rays?  If a nuclear powerplant in northern New Jersey had suffered a leak, they'd announce it ASAP simply to avoid company-destroying lawsuits later.  We've heard no such announcement, so that seems unlikely.  So what else emits gamma rays, and would be worth panicking a few million residents of the northeast to find?

Sure.  Can't tell anyone cuz that would make the panic exponentially worse--and would crash the stock market.  Gee, can't have that, eh?

Now, there are still a lot of unexplained aspects for this last theory to be right.  For one thing, "RF Engineer" talks about a 200 GHz comm network.  You don't need 200 GHz communications to manage a fleet of drones.  Hell, I've had one for four years that will go to any spot you want via GPS, then fly any track you want, at any altitude you like, and then return home--all without a single radio emission or command.  It's 16 inches across and weighs two pounds.  So DoD drones looking for gamma rays wouldn't need any radio, either in or out, to accomplish the mission.

So the 200 GHz ability put forward by the "RF engineer" seems totally unnecessary--a mis-direction.  But at this point the idea that the drone swarm is an actual operational mission seems far more plausible than any of the other theories being discussed.
