Irish gov't asks if public supports law criminalizing "hate speech." 73% don't. Pols do it anyway.
The Left never relents on goals, but always keeps pushing. If a bill or policy is rejected, they simply re-name it and try again in a year.
In cases where they either think people will support them, or think they can fake results, they ask citizens for their input. If the citizen response is negative, they simply ignore the "ask" and press on as if they'd never asked for public input
These cynical, tyrannical moves are rarely exposed. But this time they were, in Ireland. (Democrat (sneering): "We're not Ireland so why should any American care?" Answer: because you do the same thing here.)
The transgender crazy hit Europe earlier than it did here in the U.S. And back in 2019 most Euro governments (including Ireland) were excited about passing laws making "hate speech" a crime punishable by prison time and huge fines. All governments *loved* those laws, since it increased their power *and* could be used to jail critics. Despite widespread criticism, the rulers of several nations passed such laws.
In 2019 the Irish government wanted to pass their version, and since Irish voters are quite liberal, the gruberment was confident that a majority of voters supported the idea. So with that confidence, they used social media to announce a "public consultation" asking the public to comment on the proposed law.
To the government's surprise, 73% of the respondents opposed the the proposed "hate speech" law.
So last October--acting as if nothing had happened--the Irish government did exactly as you guessed: it decided to re-introduce the bill criminalizing “hate speech.” Which means it will pass.
Leftist "snowflake:" "Dis iz *democracy in action,* comrade!"
Conservative: "WTF? Just 3 years ago 73% of those who responded said they *didn't* want such a law. So how the hell do you claim this is 'democracy'?"
Leftist: "Cuz our free, fair and honest elections elected our government, and they're telling us what to do. See?"
And sure enough, this week the bill got a big majority of support in the lower house, 110 to 14.
Now: if the legislators had *opposed* the bill, and the public opinion had supported it, the Left would ALSO have claimed this was "democracy in action," because the Left knows people respond favorably to the word "democracy." So if the Left likes a result, they claim that result is "democracy in action," regardless.
Clever, eh?
