Democrat pols sneer when they're told president extends thoughts and prayers to families of downed jet. Until...
Democrat politicians were sneering over the president's statement after Iran shot down a civilian airliner as it was departing Teheran's airport. The president had expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the incident, and promised that those responsible would be prosecuted.
Senator Chuck Schumer was incensed: "The last thing we need is this president's 'thoughts and prayers.' This is outrageous!"
Democrat congresswoman Ilhan Omar sneered "Why does this president constantly do the 'thoughts and prayers' thing? He's just pandering to his base of Christian nuts."
Democrat speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, said "We're far too sophisticated to be extending superstitious stuff like 'prayers' to families who have just lost loved ones. This just shows how dumb the president is."
Democrat senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said "In a truly advanced socialist country we wouldn't need such superstitious hogwash. Socialism doesn't need prayers. It just shows how dumb this president is."
At that point one of the reporters at the press conference said "Excuse me, but the statements offering condolences to the families and saying 'My thoughts and prayers go out to all the mourning families' was the president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani.
Schumer: "Oh, that's an entirely different thing. President Rouhani is a great, compassionate leader."
Speaker Pelosi: "You should have told us that to begin with. That statement by President Rouhani was very compassionate. The current occupant of the White House could learn a lot from him."
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar: "My people in Somalia are all about prayer and compassion."
Senator Bernie Sanders: "That changes everything. Prayer is a great social tool for advanced societies like Iran's. It helps soothe hurting people who've lost love ones."
Wow, standards sure change fast depending on who the speaker is, eh?
