New Mexico teen gets 30 days in jail for killing man
Santiago Armijo, then 15, fatally shot a man at a park in Albuquerque in March 2018. Witnesses told investigators they saw the victim chase Armijo before Armijo shot him in the chest.
Last Thursday judge Christina Jaramillo sentenced the killer to... 30 days in juvenile jail after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of a handgun and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
The killer could have faced 4 years in "juvie" but the judge ruled that 30 days was enough of a deterrent.
Oh wait...the killer will also be required to speak to high-school students "on the consequences of their actions." Yeah, that 30-day sentence really shows teens that actions have "consequences."
Now it's possible there were self-defense factors in this killing, but it's not apparent that the trivial sentence imposed by the judged was due to any such factor.
Liberals in NYC want to abolish bail for criminals, to just let them out until trial. When will libs take the next logical step: Why not do away with prisons altogether?
