Number of people who watched latest Dem debate dropped...oh, just a bit. Means nothing.

The Neilson company tallies samples of TV viewers to rank shows.  Neilson reports that the first debate of Democrat candidates vying for the party's presidential nomination drew 18 million viewers.  That was in June of this year.

Last Thursday the Dem's staged their fourth candidate debate.  According to Neilson this one was watched by...6 million Americans.

After that result was released I asked several super-smaht Hahvahd-educated media types if this meant anything at all, and if so, what that might be.  The folks I interviewed insisted on anonymity since I wasn't paying 'em.

Elite #1:  "Viewers were down a bit because all right-thinking Americans were too busy celebrating Trump's impeachment from the day before to tune in."

Elite #2:  "There was a slight drop in viewers because of competition from Thursday Night Football, which featured a much-anticipated matchup between...two teams from large cities, and sports fans didn't want to miss a minute of the action."

Elite #3:  "Slightly fewer Americans watched because after the first three fascinating, informative debates most Democrat voters have made up their minds and don't believe they need to watch any more."

Elite #4:  "Viewers didn't decrease by a significant amount.  Actual viewership was nearly 18 million. Neilson lied about the numbers because a Trump company secretly owns the Neilsons.  Just like Trump lied about not wanting a quid pro quo from Ukraine."

Elite #5:  "Viewers were a tiny bit lower than the first debate because the stock market was way down after our wonderful congressmen and women sadly, somberly did their duty under the Constitution by impeaching this lawless president for high crimes and misdemeanors, or something equivalent.  People were forced to spend Thursday night researching which stocks to dump, leading to further misery in this horrible economy that has only helped billionaires."

Three top Democrat politicians were willing to speak on the record.  First was Nancy Pelosi:

Speaker Pelosi:  "Since the senate can't have a trial until I decide to send the articles of impeachment to them, we'll hold off until we finish getting the wireta--the physical evidence that vice-president Pence has also committed impeachable acts.  Then if the senate removes Trump, before Pence has confirmed yet another Republican as the new vice-president my House will quickly move to impeach Pence too.  When he's removed, I'll be president.  And of course anyone Pence nominates to be the new VP must be confirmed by the House.  I'll ensure that reached the floor right after the impeachment vote on Pence.  It's brilliant!

Senator Chuck Schumer:  "We intend to shame 19 Republican senators into voting to convict and remove this awful president.  Because the will of the American people must be obeyed--and that will is shown not by the person who wins the electoral vote, but by the winner of the national popular vote.  The Founders never foresaw a situation where the winner of the popular vote would lose the election.  That's why the Constitution doesn't have any procedure for how to deal with that."

Maxine Waters:  "We finally got rid of Trump!  He no longer preznit!"
