Dems announce bold new plan to fight climate change!

WASHINGTON D.C.--  This morning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a press conference with senator Chuck Schumer, congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, California governor Gavin Newsome and New York governor Andrew Cuomo to announce a bold new program to fight climate change (sometimes erroneously called global warming) by reducing CO2 emissions.

"We have decided that since we can't get the Orange Hitler to act, we will take matters into our own hands," said Schumer.  "California has more cars and uses more gasoline than any other state, so the strongly-progressive Democratic governors of that state and New York will help national Democrats show our wise leadership by banning all cars, effective on January 1st of 2025."

"This generous time frame will give the citizens of those states ample time to get full use out of their current cars and time to find electric replacements, so they won't be inconvenienced.  We'll also ask Republicans to join us in passing legislation to provide transit aid to help poor residents--mostly people of color and immigrants--to purchase electric vehicles."

Pelosi added "To ensure no inconvenience for residents, as part of this bold but generous plan trucks will still be allowed to use internal-combustion engines, at least for now.  We're still working with Chinese and Japanese battery experts to estimate the cost of large battery-powered trucks, but my staff assures me that these will be ready soon."

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez added "This program shows what we can do when we decide to take bold action and stop worrying about the whining of climate deniers!  And the next step--changing all electricity production to wind and solar--will work every bit as well.  Next will be air travel--except for government officials, of course."
