Teacher's union worker fired for trying to...unionize that organization

File this under the "you just can't make up stuff like this" heading:

In a move of stunning hypocrisy, the United Federation of Teachers axed one of its longtime employees — for trying to unionize the labor organization’s own workers....

Jim Callaghan, a veteran writer for the teachers union, told The Post he was [fired] two months after he [told the union's president] that he was trying to organize some of his co-workers.

“I was fired for trying to start a union at the UFT,” said a dumbfounded Callaghan, who [had] worked for the union [for] 13 years.

[snip]

Callaghan said...he was hauled into a meeting with UFT officials...and told only that he was being fired...and had half an hour to clear out of the office.

“They gave me no reason, no letter, no cause at all,” said Callaghan....

Callaghan said the union-busting bullying continued after he was told he was fired, when UFT leaders called in a detail of six uniformed cops to remove him from his office because he wasn’t leaving fast enough.

Callaghan said he decided to unionize the 12 UFT writers after a colleague was fired last year without cause.

“We have no protections,” he said.

And how right he was.

The link offers several other examples of unions resisting attempts to organize (unionize) their own employees. From the number of examples one gets the impression this is a lot more frequent than anyone would have guessed.

Who could have guessed that unions--who are constantly telling us how much they care for the "working man/woman" and seek to protect them from the depredations of the eeevil owners and bosses--are guilty of exactly the same kinds of worker abuse they rail against?

Hmmm....sounds exactly like a certain political party that makes a big f'n show of being "for the little guy" but actually raises his taxes, and will now force his children to pay higher taxes, and will force all citizens to buy expensive health insurance regardless of their age.

Y'know, hypocrisy doesn't sit well whether it's from a union or a political party.
