Kos poster: "911 more about optics than actual harm"

Newsbusters has a piece on a post on Daily Kos. (Yeah, I know--any nut can post anything over there, and does. But it's a window on the insanity of the Left.) Here's the crux:
Given that [Muslims] are such a small minority in [the U.S.], it's odd that so many [Americans] see them as such a threat. Yes, the 9/11 attacks were horrific, but they were more about optics than actual harm. The economy was already taking a hit before the Twin Towers fell. The reaction of the nation to seeing two major buildings in New York fall on T.V. has boosted the attack out of proportion. [More Americans] are killed every year in car crashes.
That's absolutely...astonishing in its illogic. Poster claims that the destruction of four packed jetliners, the WTC and a couple of hundred killed at the Pentagon didn't cause much "actual harm" BECAUSE...? "The economy was already taking a hit before the Twin Towers fell."

This type of "reasoning" is characteristic of the literally insane. It's on a par with, "Yes, the perp killed your mother but there wasn't much actual harm because she was unemployed anyway." It's absolutely nuts. Literally.

And ya' gotta love that phrasing, "...before the Twin Towers fell." Like, they just suddenly, spontaneously got tired of standing upright so they decided--all by themselves--to rest for awhile. (And yes, we do know that "fell" is a common enough euphemism for the destruction of any tall structure, including the Trade Center.)

Poster claims the fact that Americans saw the towers fall on television "boosted the attack out of proportion." Ah yes, we do need to maintain a sense of proportion. As in, it was the most Americans killed in an unprovoked attack since, oh, December 7th, 1941? And triggering--apparently forever--pre-boarding screening measures including X-raying, removing shoes and belts, and you can't take more than 4 ounces of liquid through? That sort of "out of proportion?"

Finally the rationalization used in the last sentence, trying to minimize the evil of the attack on the grounds that more Americans are killed each year in automobile accidents...!

One almost expects the next line to be, "More Americans died in a single battle in the Civil War!" or some other meaningless comparison. And of course automobile accidents are just that: accidents, whereas the destruction of the WTC was...? Yes, that's right: intentional.

But of course we can't expect the insane to understand such a subtle, 'nuanced' distinction.

I don't think there's a cure for the level of stupidity or insanity shown by this poster. And it seems pretty typical for Kos fans.
