Covid "experts:" Mask and stay home if you want to live!" Sweden: You guys aren't that smart!

On March 30 the New York Times published an article finally asking what medical "experts" around the world--slobbering, unquestioningly echoed by the Times--refused to ask two years ago:

When duh Chyna virus hit, so-called "experts" like the notorious fraud Fauci warned that the only way to survive was to wear masks and stay home.  Most nations locked down, but Sweden refused to go along--yet somehow ended up with the lowest rate of covid deaths in Europe.

How could that be?  Based on Sweden's population, the "experts" predicted 96,000 Swedish citizens would die just by June of 2020 unless the country's government obeyed "the experts."

By July of 2020 the actual number of covid deaths in Sweden was...5,700.

The Mainstream Media carefully buried that number, ignoring Sweden's obvious win.  Why?  Because the Narrative--eagerly, slavishly spread by the Mainstream Media--was that Fauci was the master, the savior, and if you wanted to live you had to do as he ordered.

Apparently he was wrong.  And not just slightly wrong, but ridiculously wrong.

Times writer David Wallace-Wells rejects the idea that Sweden had the lowest covid death rate in Europe, carping that the data is "imperfect and not adjusted for demographics."  But he admits that even if the data is off a bit, the Swedish approach worked very well.

To remind those with covid-impaired memory: 5,700 actual deaths versus the experts' prediction of 96,000.

But amusingly, back in 2020 the Times was bleating that Sweden was facing a disaster for refusing to drink the Kool-aid, joining a chorus of media outlets predicting a disaster in Sweden, and claiming its approach had “amplified the virus."

Now, three years later, we know the "experts" were wrong.  And the Times bought their bullshit without a single critical question.  Hmmm...

In any case it’s clear Sweden performed better than many lockdown nations. World Health Organization data he references show Swedes had an excess death rate average of 56/100,000—far better than Italy (133), Germany (116), Spain (111), and the UK (109).

So why did Sweden do so well?

It’s important to remember that one of the reasons nations went into lockdown in the first place was that the Imperial College of London predicted as many as 40 million people would die in nine months if the virus was left unchecked.

The Times doesn’t address these "modeling errors," choosing instead to squirt clouds of ink like “mandates may matter somewhat less than social behavior and the disease itself — and surely less than we want to believe.”

The Times piece never actually admits that lockdowns may have been a dumb and ultimately harmful idea, probably because that could prompt some pointed questions as to why the Media slavishly echoed every Fauci quote without a single question.

Sadly, most politicians imposed forced lockdowns, believing Fauci and ignoring everyone else.  They fancied themselves experts.

This is the biggest lesson of the pandemic: Central planners do not possess the knowledge to effectively organize society, but they do possess the power to wreck the social order—very quickly.
