"Whut dis?"

You're not in the oil business, nor in any support industry, so I suspect the graph below will be new to ya:  Certainly you won't see it in the Lying Mainstream Media cuz it cuts against the Dem party:

As you see, it shows U.S. oil production since 1920.  It's from duh gruberment's own EIA website so you can verify it's authentic for yourself.

This graph is hugely significant, as you'll understand in a moment.

You quickly see that in 1970 U.S. oil production peaked at about 300 MILLION barrels per month, or about ten million barrels per day.  But after 1970 production began a 37-year decline.  The reason is simple: When you extract oil from a "reservoir," less remains to be produced (duh), and what remains is far more reluctant to BE produced.  This is called "exponential decay," and it's not just a theory but has been exhaustively tested and confirmed for a century.

But beginning around 2007 something unpredictable--almost magical--happened: U.S. oil production began to increase again, astonishingly rapidly.  And by 2016 U.S. oil production had recovered to its previous peak in 1970.

This doesn't impress most of you because you have no reason to think it's unusual.  But it's actually totally unlikely.  Somehow U.S. oil companies were able to more than offset the problem of "exponential decay."   How did they do that?

Innovative ideas and lots of money, both private and from those awful, icky oil companies, invested in developing and testing new technology.

Had oil companies.not done this, gasoline would cost over eight bucks a gallon, and the U.S. would be paying an extra BILLION dollar per DAY to import the oil you use.

If you're a liberal and skeptical, feel free to ask me where that number comes from, cuz I can easily show ya.  Point is that while y'all are watching fake newz, hard-working people are working hard to provide you with the things you need or want at a lower cost.  But of course you never hear a word of that, only bleats and screams demonizing capitalism and free markets.

If y'all knew even one percent of what it takes to produce oil from, say, two miles below the ocean floor, you'd be absolutely staggered.  But you don't, so you just shrug and go back to watching network "newz".and voting Democrat.

I'm gonna enjoy watching the next few years.
