Aleksander Solhenitsyn saw this happening, tried to warn ya. But hey, what did he know, eh?
Repeat after me, citizen: "There was no fraud. Or if there was, it was only a little, and mostly inadvertent. And even if we accept that, it was never enough to change the result of a single state.
Or if, in the totally unlikely event that the inadvertent fraud changed the results in one state, a change of just one state wouldn't change the result of the election. So anyone claiming election fraud is really trying to overthrow the expressed will of the American people. Besides, citizen, "there was no fraud." Keep repeating that, citizen.
Elections are SO important, eh, citizen? And sometimes when counter-revolutionary forces try to overthrow the Party, it becomes the duty of good citizens to report anti-Party thought. And wear your mask, citizens.
There are rumors that some citizens are claiming there is some precedent for our current situation. Some counter-revolutionary writer, Alexsandr-something, made up some stories. But they were fiction, citizen, and you are instructed to ignore those tales. The Party is always right, and anyone claiming there has ever been a situation similar to today's is simply spreading lies. To learn the truth you must only trust the Party, citizen.
“How we burned in our minds in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Stalinist agent, when he went out at night to make an arrest, thought he might not come home alive, and had to say good-bye to his family?
Or what if, during periods of mass arrests--as in Leningrad, when Stalin ordered the arrest of a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their rooms, cowering in terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had realized that they had nothing more to lose, so had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The State police would very quickly have suffered a shortage of jackboots, and notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!
If…always "if"…Perhaps we simply didn’t love freedom enough. But even those who did: we simply didn't know the real situation…. --Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn (slightly edited)
