Snobs: "Is there anything worse than capitalist architecture?" Citizens: "You're idiots"
In the midst of mostly-depressing news, here's some amusement: Most high-income architects are absurdly elitist. They compete for a limited pool of high-end commissions, most of which can't be won unless the architect is "woke"--meaning outrageously politically correct.
So as you might guess, virtually all high-income architects are socialists--which is kind of odd when you consider that in a free market, most big buildings are built by corporations. Oh well...
Seems there's a twitter called "architecturpic", and whoever runs it is predictably socialist, so they're absurdly critical of everything capitalist. Including the architecture. Which again is...kind of odd, since free-market capitalism has produced some really stunning, pleasing buildings. Oh well....
So a couple of weeks ago the folks who run "architecturpic" tweeted a pic of a big intersection and wrote "What is more depressing than capitalist architecture?"
Amusingly, they got blasted by a lot of commenters who are both smarter and more travelled than the moronic socialists who made the original tweet. Over 30 comments were some variation of "Yes, socialist architecture," with large pics of depressing buildings in communist countries.
Another 30 or so said some variation of "Yes, food lines in [Venezuela or Russia, usually]."
The number of people agreeing with the first tweet--agreeing that nothing was worse than capitalist architecture--was in the single digits.
Now, you can't tell what country the commenters are from, but if most were Americans there may yet be hope for our country!
