Communist New York professor claims grades should be abolished--says they "prop up capitalism"
A New York professor who praises communism and condemns capitalism is calling for the abolition of grades, claiming they're not only unfair to students but that they also help support capitalism.
New School professor Richard Wolff claims grading students on their performance has “little educational payoff” and “disrespects [students] as thinking people.”
Wolff has blamed capitalism for homelessness, and joined the crowd of academic idiots who claim President Trump is worse than Adolf Hitler.
Wolff claims grades are a crucial enabling factor for capitalism, which he condemns for producing "socially divisive inequalities” and creating “boring or dangerous” jobs. He claims the entire notion of “meritocracy” produces bad results--and that grades “anchor” the concept of meritocracy in society.
You'd be hard-pressed to imagine people this crazy. And yet he's a professor at two universities--which tells you everything you need to know about those institutions.
Originally I included this crazy asshole's entire essay here so you could see how utterly unhinged he is, but eventually deleted it because it's a total waste of your time. Imagine 2,000 randomly-ordered words of "post-modern deconstruction."
If you're extremely masochistic it's in a leftist "journal" called "TruthOut." But fair warning: you'll need a stiff drink after reading his crap. Dude is seriously sick.
Here's a bit of history lesson for this dumb son of a bitch: Back in the 1990's or so, leftist students at elite Hahvahd--realizing that they could get anything they wanted from cowardly beta-male administrators--demanded that the university abolish grades. The logic was, "We got into Hahvahd cuz we're the brightest kids in the country. [That's horse-shit but let it pass for now.] Thus there's no point in grading because we should all getvA's--cuz we got into Hahvahd. See?"
The adminishits bowed to this obvious wisdom, and Hahvahd changed its grade system to pass/fail--and as you might guess, no one failed. Cuz they're the brightest...you get it.
Then a very interesting thing happened: after about a year the really hard-studying students realized "What's the point of working harder than other students, since there's no system to reflect that? I bust my ass, while other people never study and just party all the time, and at the end of the course we both get "pass" on our transcript. Why bother to work hard?"
And without any fanfare, Harvard re-instituted grades.
I'd like to think that the same revolutionary firebrands who pushed for doing away with grades were the ones who came to the realization that grades--and meritocracy--serve one hellofa fine purpose, but unfortunately that's too much to hope for.
But the fact is, the fundamental premise of communism--that everyone's exactly, precisely equal--is implicitly antithetical to the entire concept of merit, and the notion that hard work pays off. By contrast, free markets take the opposite position: hard work and good ideas are rewarded.
The Lying Mainstream Media would have you believe there's no difference in the quality of life for those living in each of those two systems. Or that any advantage enjoyed by citizens of free-market nations is more than offset by the fact that drug addicts and those who prefer crime to a productive job typically live poorly.
But by all means, citizen, do listen to morons like Wolff, cuz he's got your best interests at heart. Plus he's a professor, so...you know.
