Jobs report for December: Mainstream media yawns "Economy is awful! cuz Apple stock down 10%!!""

How's the economy doing? 

If you get your news from the Lying Mainstream Media you're pretty sure it's awful.  But here's something the media doesn't tell you: 

In December, U.S. employers added 312,000 jobs.

Wait, is that good news or bad?  Unless you're an economist or a political junkie you have no idea. In fact one of the theoretical jobs of the media is to give some context to figures like that.  But if there's a republican president and the news is good, they won't report the story.

So here's a way to know: economists say companies need to hire about 100,000 Americans each month to match population growth and immigration.  So from this viewpoint it's apparent that the economy is doing incredibly well.

Wait...I hear Democrats saying "Jobs are always added in December cuz it's the Winter Holiday season.  So this number is merely average for December."

Yeah, that's what we knew they'd say.  So let's look at the entire year:  In 2018 employers added 2.6 million jobs, for an average of nearly 217,000 a month.
