Mainstream reporter claims U.S. troops "distraught, upset, morally disturbed" about leaving Syria. Really?
Here's the latest salvo in the war by the Lying Mainstrem Media to remove Trump. It's a tweet from NBC's Richard Engel in which Engel posits a "sr military official" telling him U.S. troops are "distraught, upset, morally disturbed" by the prospect of leaving Syria.
Immediately dozens of people claiming to be current or former military took to Twitter to say that NONE of the troops they knew were unhappy about leaving; that all the troops knew that due to Obama's orders, the U.S. was supporting ISIS in fighting to overthrow Bashir Assad, which the troops considered a lousy reason to fight in Syria.
Now, I don't doubt that Engel might have been able to find a "senior military official" who would tell him what he wanted to hear. But in any case this is an effective propaganda tactic I haven't seen since VietNam: the media quoting un-named "senior military officials" to make Americans suspicious of the president. Can't be verified, but most Americans will believe Engel's claim-- because after all, your unbiased, trustworthy media has never lied to you before, right?
Engel's tactic--claiming the troops oppose the pullout--is particularly cunning because it enables U.S. Democrats to accuse Trump supporters of "not supporting the troops you claim to support," since per Engel's anonymous, alleged source the troops don't want to leave. Gotta say that's wicked clever.
How about trying this, folks: Unless you live in a protected liberal enclave, you probably know someone who has a kid or spouse in the military. Find out what their specialty is and where they've served, and ask 'em if they believe the guys in Syria are "distraught, upset, morally disturbed" at the idea of leaving that shithole.
A sr military official told me US special forces troops distraught, upset, morally disturbed by having to tell their kurdish allies in Syria that, because of orders, their promises of defense won’t be kept.— Richard Engel (@RichardEngel) December 21, 2018
