New poll shows many Democrats now believe Lincoln's assassination was staged

The rift between the political right and left in the U.S. got even wider this week, as a new poll showed that a majority of Democrats believe the Lincoln assassination was staged.

Though long held to be an undisputed fact, a poll of Democrat voters found many say they now suspect President Abraham Lincoln wasn't actually assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, and that the entire incident was an elaborate hoax to win support for the president's embattled party after the long, costly Civil War.

"That whole situation was suspicious," lifelong Democrat Dean Stinson posted on social media. "Let's be honest here, things just don't add up.  First, do you know what John Wilkes Booth did for a living?  That's right — he was an actor. Actors literally spend their time playing roles.  Sounds like the perfect guy to pull off a staged assassination, right?"
