Leftist rag thought it had a "gotcha" that would sink Hegseth. Nope, sources lied
Pro Publica is a total left-wing outfit, edited by a leftist POS named Jesse Eisinger. And ol' Jesse got a whiff of a HOT STORY: Trump's nominee for Secretary of Defense (Pete Hegseth) had said he'd been accepted at West Point, but Democrat lackeys combing thru every hour of his life learned that this was supposedly false!
Eisinger was SO excited! If the story was true, it offered the Dems a chance to cause one of Trump's cabinet nominees to fail to be confirmed. Yay!! A huge Dem win, eh?
So watch how Jesse tells the story of "how journalism works:"
2/ We contacted the West Point Public Affairs Office.
The first spokesperson wrote on the record: “According to the admissions office, Hegseth did not apply for admission to the U.S. Military Academy.”
3/ We called back to ask if that meant that Hegseth had never been admitted and a second spokesperson told us--on the record-- “Absolutely, 100%. Because he never opened a file.”

4/Now, we thought we had the makings of a significant story. But the first rule of good journalism is, you must give the subject of a potential story a fair chance to respond to the facts in the story.

So he thinks he's got a hot story that will sink Hegseth, and thus tar Trump's image. But since he and his left-wing attack goats are all about duh fairness, someone asked Pete to comment for the story. And Hegseth calmly showed Eisinger his letter of acceptance for the class of 2003 at West Point, signed by a 3-star general.
So...no story, eh? Wait...he's got an even bigger story: unless we assume the admissions office lost all the records of Pete's acceptance, we've got two Democrats at West Point who are lying, to sink a Trump nominee, to tar Trump. But of course to the left that's NOT a story they wanna run, eh?
And of course they didn't. Instead leftist Eisinger crowed about how totally virtuous he and his leftist publication are, for NOT printing a story they were shown was fake. The guy wants applause for that? Yep, read on:
5/Why do we do this? We want to make sure what we have is correct. We care about accuracy. We aim to get both specific facts & the larger picture right. The essential part of this is contacting subjects & being intellectually honest enough to change your mind & drop a story.
"Intellectually honest"? His leftist outfit won't print the story about the seemingly deliberate lies from the treasonous bastards who apparently lied to get the Media to print the story to sink Trump's nominee. See, dat not a story he like, so like all leftists, he'll ignore it.
