Newsome signs bills into law on reparations. Sounds SOOOooo faabulous.
Yesterday California's Democrat gov. Gavin Newsom signed a series of “reparations” bills, including a formal apology for slavery--even though slavery was never legal there in the state (it entered the Union as a free state).
The bills didn't include actual payments, nor establish a reparations fund, but were pushed by black activists as a "wedge" to force the state to pay up later.
The push for reparations gained steam during the riots of 2020 after George Floyd died of a drug overdose--a finding from the autopsy that was totally ignored by the Media in favor of the video of a cop pinning Floyd to the ground.
As the riots spread across the country, emotional, guilt-ridden, self-hating whites pushed the notion that *people who had never owned slaves* must be forced to pay billions to people who had never *been* slaves.
So as you might have guessed, the lack of cash payments by Newsom's new laws "provoked protests."
But hey, Newsom did what looks SO faaabulous: sign bills that commit the state to pay reparations *at some time in the future, on someone else's watch.
Typical leftist tactics.
