From Democrat senate leader Chuck Schumer to party members:

Subject: Our next move to reduce Global Warming

After 20 years of articles warning about global warming/climate change from our friends in the Media, our focus groups have found that 95% of our base voters--and 20% of those identifying as GOP--strongly agree that the climate is getting dangerously hot because humans are burning fossil fuels.

Our Party sees this as a great opportunity that we can use to extend our control of the country.

Accordingly, we'll soon be introducing a new bill that will do two things:  First, it will order that starting in 2027 all new cars sold in the U.S. must be "zero-emission," meaning electric.  Car-makers have assured us that by then they'll have the ability to make 90% of the number of cars expected to be sold.  They say the 90% figure is actually good because it will allow them to sell those cars at or above sticker price.

Second, the bill will provide that starting in 2027 there will be a new annual federal tax on all fossil-fuel cars, starting at $200 the first year and increasing by $200 per year every year thereafter.  Since most of our voters live in large cities and will be happy with electric vehicles, they won't be inconvenienced by this.

The new annual tax avoids the pushback that would be expected if we simply banned non-electric cars.  Our media friends will help by printing stories that the tax is simply an incentive to all Americans to get rid of their fossil-fuel cars, and that anyone who insists on keeping their fossil-fueled cars is killing the climate.  That should keep the optics from being a problem for us.

This tale will also enable our ten Republican allies in the House to vote for the bill there, giving us the votes needed to pass it.  And of course we don't need any GOP votes in the senate.

Of course government vehicles will be allowed to use liquid fuels, as now.
