More on the wokiez lowering cutoff scores for med-school admissions

In the wave of national (Media-driven) hysteria following George Floyd’s death in 2020, the nation's "elites" decided to lower the standards for being a doctor or pilot, solely to put more blacks into those professions.

The committees controlling med-school admissions all knew that the *average* scores of blacks on tests like the MCAT were lower than for whites.  Author Heather Mac Donald noted that in 2021 the average score for white applicants on the MCAT was in the 71st percentile … The average score for black applicants was in the 35th percentile.

"Social justice warriors" bleated that the lower average score could not *possibly* be due to any intrinsic factor, or to the fact that most of the black community sneers at studying hard in school.

The American Medical Association, the American Association of Medical Colleges and the American Association of Pediatrics all agree that the medical profession is racist.  So to the wokiez the disparity in scores could only be due to one thing:  Duh tests wuz raaacist.

So the committees of doctors controlling med-school admissions--entirely woke, of course, and eager to show their wokie virtue to their peers--had a simple solution: lower the scores needed for blacks to be admitted.

Simple.

Many medical schools responded by not requiring black or Hispanic students to even take the MCAT, which neatly avoided the claim that there were two sets of standards for test scores--since one group didn't have any.

And if you disagreed with the wokiez, you were fired.  The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) aired a podcast in 2021 in which the deputy editor, Edward Livingston, suggested that inequities in medical care be addressed without accusing doctors of racism.  Both he and JAMA’s editor-in-chief were promptly denounced and fired, the editor replaced by a black woman.

Blacks now head the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center, the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center, the University of Pittsburgh Division of Medical Hematology/Oncology, the Wake Forest School of Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Pharmacy, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the Massey Cancer Center at VCU, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Department of Medicine at UCLA’s medical school.

What could possibly go wrong?  After all, most of our largest cities have black mayors, and everything is fine, right?

Now let me quickly note that blacks who study hard seem to do as well on the MCAT as any other race.  There are just fewer of them.  And of course that could be due to the fact that so many members of the black community sneer at members who study hard, calling it "acting white."

So let's look further:  After the second year of medical school students take a test called Step One of the United States Medical Licensing Exam, which tests their knowledge of anatomy, biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology and so on.

The test is graded by computer, so the race of student isn't known.

As with the MCAT, black students again score a full standard deviation below white and Asian students on this test.

Wokiez conclusion: The computer must be racist, and has somehow guessed the race of the students.

But again, the wokiez have a simple way to "fix" this problem [st] situation: In January of last year (2022) the exam eliminated grades for Step One altogether.  It's now pass/fail, which again makes it impossible to show differences in knowledge.

But this may not be a bad thing: In today's medical schools learning to identify and treat diseases isn’t as important as teaching students about “systems of power, privilege and oppression.”

Seriously.  Heather Mac Donald notes that more than half of the top 50 medical schools now require students to take courses in systemic racism.  Better to spend precious instruction time on that than how to diagnose rare diseases, right?

In 2021 the Howard Hughes Medical Institute announced it would spend $2 billion to...what, find a cure for cancer? Parkinson’s?  Heart disease?

Nope, they'd spend $2 billion to "promote diversity and inclusion in science.”

Now let me pivot to "pilots," since I flew Air Force jets for a decade.

You might think the executives of commercial airlines would all be no-nonsense pilots, immune to the wokie disease.  Nope. The push for commercial airlines to show they're "woke"--whether to keep the race-vultures from picketing 'em or just to virtue-signal--is just as strong as for Target or any other company.

Now, back in the early days of flying, academics weren't very important.  But in commercial aviation the systems are SO complex that you have to master a ton of academics to succeed.  People who don't have that firepower normally "wash out."

But as you already guessed, wokie execs push their flight examiners not to wash out unqualified minorities, but to keep them in the cockpit even after they've failed one checkride after another.
Fortunately since there are two pilots in all commercial jets, what would be a fatal error by one pilot is almost always caught by the other pilot.

The crucial qualifier there is "almost."

There's a gut-wrenching video of a 767 flying into the bay off Houston in 2019.  Fortunately the plane was flying cargo so the crash only killed three people on board.

The pilot flying the plane had been written up several times as being unqualified, but was still flying.  He mis-handled what should have been a routine approach, and by the time the captain noticed, the plane was too low to recover.

But don't worry, citizen.  This was a very rare occurrence.  The wokie disease is unlikely to result in other crashes.  Really.
