New Minneapolis DA, female former chief public defender, pushes no jail for crooks, just "restorative justice"

Back in the bad old days, elected officials were sworn in by putting their left hand on the Bible and taking an oath.

Not sure how elected Jewish officials were sworn in, but several years ago a judge ruled that Muslims could use the Koran.  And predictably, after that reasonable ruling all bets were off.

So yesterday the new ~district attorney for a county that includes Minneapolistan, Mary Moriarty--who was previously the chief public defender--took her oath of office Tuesday with her hand on a copy of a "graphic novel" (fancy comic book) about the late black congressman John Lewis.

As the former chief public defender, Moriarty has pushed for “restorative justice programs” instead of  “traditional prosecution.”

For those unfamiliar with leftist buzzwords, "restorative justice programs" means she doesn't think criminals should be sent to jail or prison.

Her campaign website bleated “Research and data show that non-restorative models of punishment do not prevent recidivism, do not repair families, and cause harm to a community."

Yeah, dat why it called "punishment" instead of "vacation."  And you bleat that jail doesn't "repair families," clearly implying that her "restorative justice" will.  But I'm pretty sure her concern about "repairing families" doesn't include the families of victims, eh?

Cuz for leftists, victims don't matter.  Instead the important thing to leftist DA's is that thugs and thieves not be put away.  Cuz, *fairness,* comrade.

“Incarceration disconnects the person who committed violence from their community,” says her website.

Well yeah, that's the whole point:  Get the bad people off the streets for as long as needed to get 'em to truly regret turning to harmful crime.  If they wanna continue to steal and destroy let 'em get into *acceptable crime,* like the biden family.

Her website also says she "opposes the cash bail system." Now if you're not a leftist, at first glance you may think she opposes letting accused killers out on bail, which strikes most normal people as a pretty good idea.  But that's not what that means.

What it means is that she wants every thug and accused criminal to be able to walk out of jail in a day or less without being "inconvenienced" by having to post a bond ensuring he'll appear in court.  

She claims forcing thugs to post bail "isn't helping to make our community safer.”  Really?  I can show you a thousand cases where a thug who was released without bail promptly killed someone else--often a witness to the crime he was arrested for.  My guess is the dead would have been in favor of keeping thugs in jail until trial.

Isn't "progressivism" wonderful?  Ask California business owners: When the Democrats in that state passed a referendum measure allowing thugs to steal up to $950 worth of loot per day with no meaningful prosecution, thugs began stealing everything that wasn't tied down.  They were just careful that each member of the crew not steal more than the limit.

Of course with no prosecution possible, cops stopped investigating thefts where no one person stole more than the allowed limit.  With no prosecution, reporting thefts under the limit was pointless, so citizens and businesses stopped reporting.  So in classic Democrat fashion, the Dems bleated that "crime is DOWN because of our policies," when everyone with a functioning brain knew that was a lie.

Minnesota doesn't have that law (yet), but crooks known they've now got something even better: a DA who's announced she won't send thieves to prison.  Let's see how well that works.
