Missouri passes photo-ID law--but Dems demand a compromise: mail-in voting. No need for photo ID

Yesterday the governor of Missouri signed a state law designed to make it harder to commit election fraud.  It was a great effort--but the Democrats insisted on a compromise that rendered it absolutely useless.  Watch:

The key provision--one pushed by Republicans for almost two decades--requires voters to show photo ID to vote in person.  Yay.  Eliminates one of the many fraud mechanisms Democrats have been proven to use.

The law also eliminates drop boxes--closing a second fraud mechanism.  No need to show ID if you can just drop off a ballot--whether genuine or fraudulent.

But if you think this will largely eliminate massive vote fraud in Missouri, think again: the Democrats had these two propsals analyzed--and had devised counter-measures--months ago: they agreed not to oppose photo-ID and eliminating drop-boxes IF the Republicans would agree to allow vote-by-mail without requiring the voter to cite a reason why he or she (or it or they or xir) couldn’t vote on election day.

Now think hard, folks:  If you can vote by mail, there's no need to show ID, eh?  If you can vote by mail, you don't need drop-boxes.

Reform effort neatly thwarted.

So as the state's Republicans congratulate themselves for passing what they claim is “one of the strongest election laws in the country,” Democrats grin like Cheshire cats.

Democrats will only sign on to a "reform" bill if they've already devised a way to evade all of the efforts to "reform."
