Drunk or stoned teen runs down mother and child, hit-and-run; LA DA Gascon lets him off with a hug

Last August in Venice, California a young mother was pushing a stroller carrying her infant when a drunk or stoned teenage driver plowed into her.  

The mother said the driver accelerated and turned into her--actions supported by surveillance cameras.  (The video clip at the link above is damning--well worth watching.)  There were also "numerous eyewitnesses."  With nowhere to escape, the quick-thinking mother somehow managed to throw stroller and infant into the air just before impact, likely saving her child's life.

The stoned or drunk driver didn't stop, but accelerated away, but struck a pickup truck a short distance down the alley, preventing him from escaping.

The car was a rental--but since 16-year-olds can't rent cars--even in California--police said "it's not known how he got possession of the car."  And no news report indicates that the question was ever investigated or that the driver was asked to explain.  Turns out the car was stolen.  So why was the stoned rat-bastard teen driver not charged with "possession of stolen property"?  You'll have to ask Gascon--although not a single "reporter" seems to have been curious enough to do that.  It's like his office just ignored how the stoner got the car.

Initial charges were felony hit-and-run, and driving while intoxicated.  But since the driver was "a juvenile, the alleged DUI crash is not considered a violent crime."  Seriously, that's what a local TV station reported.  Staggering idiocy.  One wonders how many people a teen member of a special class would have to kill before his DUI crash would be considered a "violent crime."

When interviewed by police on the scene, the driver told investigators the victim "appeared out of nowhere" and that he struck her by accident--bullshit clearly contradicted by video and eyewitnesses..

The teen later pleaded guilty--having been promised a sweetheart deal by the totally corrupt communist DA of Los Angeles county, George Gascon.

The teen--never named by any "newz" outlet, of course--was sentenced to just five months in a "diversionary program," serving that time in a "juvenile probation camp"--a program even more cushy than juvenile detention.

Gascon’s office called the final sentence of five to seven months in youth camp "an appropriate resolution."

"The baby was uninjured, and the mother only had a cut on her elbow," his office said.  "Juvenile justice is meant to rehabilitate young people," the statement continued.  "He will be held accountable for his actions and will receive the needed services to foster positive development to keep him from committing future offenses."

So thanks to a corrupt DA, hit-and-run and DUI gets a teen a nothing sentence.  Well, at least that's what you get if you're a gang member or a member of a specially-protected class.

"Newz" reports buried the following crucial comment in the 20th 'graf:  The mother--who asked that her full name not be used (??)--"said she lived in fear for seven months before the driver was taken into custody on a bench warrant after skipping court and added she will continue to live in fear after his short sentence is complete.".

The asshole teen was let loose without having to post bail, and didn't show up for his court date, and STILL got just five months.  And what do you think would prompt the mother to say she would "continue to live in fear after his sentence was complete," eh?

What group gets let out without having to post bail, and then routinely gives the finger to the law by failing to show up for trial, eh?  Why would the victim "live in fear" of this asshole drunk teen?

You know, of course.  Because today in the U.S. there's a group of people who seek revenge on people THEY have victimized, if the perps were caught and jailed even for a joke sentence.  You know.

Now:  Suppose this was your wife or daughter.  Do you agree with that sentence?
