National Public Radio confirms it opposes "free speech"--which is any speech it doesn't like

Because NPR is totally leftist, you'd think they'd be huge fans of free speech, eh?

Guess again: recently NPR did an hour-long program about the dangers of allowing free speech.

The panel included the author of “Free Speech is Killing Us”; the author of “The Case Against Free Speech”; the director of "The Dangerous Speech Project”; and a Berkeley professor who opposes free speech.

The program began by labeling anyone who supports freedom of speech as “speech absolutists.”  If you're not au courant on leftist vernacular, "absolutists" are terrible people.

The core claim of NPR’s guests was that people are harmed by speech they don't like.  Since good people presumably don't want to harm others, the obvious solution (??) is to limit speech to that which doesn't do that.  

Hey, sounds totally reasonable, eh?

But wait...if we accept the argument that speech that allegedly harms someone isn't to be allowed, that clearly implies that someone gets to decide what speech will be considered harmful--i.e. what speech shall be allowed.  And who do you think will demand to make that call, eh?

Hint:  The people who screamed that some speech is harmful and thus must not be permitted.

Rational adults recognize this as a con:  Leftists demand to be able to censor your speech, but demand that their side be able to do anything they wish.  In fact they claim actual violence--by them--is simply "free speech."  And their leftist allies support this bullshit.

The Left also accomplishes their goal (censoring speech they don't like) by cunning ploys like forcing conservative outfits on campus to post huge insurance bonds before the university will allow a conservative to speak.  The "rationale" is that the conservative speaker will outrage Leftists, who will then riot and damage the campus.  So the conservative speaker is to blame, eh?  Cuz Lefists--supposedly so enlightened and sophisticated--simply cannot restrain themselves from burning things down when they hear someone say something they don't like, eh?

It's utter horseshit, and yet that's exactly what's now happening.

If a society decides to limit free speech, obviously someone has to DECREE what those limits are, period.  And the Left demands that they be allowed to do that.
