President of liberal university wants school's mascot renamed, cuz he thinks it's offensive
University presidents, administrators and professors are among the most spineless wastes of oxygen on the planet. The evidence is overwhelming, but consider this latest example:
In the wake of a recent month of riots by Black Lives Matter, about half the country is trying to find ways to outdo each other in their grovelling to that organization. Now the president of Boston University has joined those signalling their virtue by sucking up to the mob: He's pushing to change the name of the school's mascot.
Wait...what? What's the mascot's name now? If the mascot is currently named Sambo or Chief Somethingorother, it might at least make a tiny bit of sense. So what's the mascot's current name?
Are you ready? If there are children in the room you might want to cover their ears to keep 'em from being traumatized. Got their ears covered? Okay, here goes:
The mascot is a Boston terrier called "Rhett."
Well of course! Now it's so easy to understand why the president of BU would find that offensive, right?
Uh...wait. Can anyone on the planet explain how any rational being could possibly be offended by that name?
"Isn't it obvious, you deplorable? It's because the mascot may have been named after a character in a 1936 novel!!"
"SEE, I told ya it was obvious! What, you still don't see why the president of BU thinks the name is offensive? Do we have to spell out everything for you? Geez...
The mascot MAY have been named for Rhett Butler in "Gone With the Wind." Butler didn't own slaves, nor was he a Confederate general. But hey, he did live in the South, and that means he's eeeebil. At least in the minds of morons like the president of Boston University.
Yep, president Robert A. Brown wrote a letter to the community explaining why he's pushing to rename the mascot. In the letter he noted that the mascot was chosen in 1922 by student vote. He also admits that he doesn't know why or when people started calling the mascott Rhett, but he simply guesses that the mascot may have been named after the fictional Rhett Butler.
He doesn't cite a shred of evidence supporting this, mind you, but his mere speculation that this is the origin is enough to give this man sleepless nights. He Just Had to Do Something to signal his great virtue--which, of course, is a requirement to be a university president.
With such sophisticated reasoning skills, and virtue, it's easy to see how he became a university president, eh?

If you aren't convinced yet, he goes on to explain:
"The movie’s portrayal of the our Civil War, postwar reconstruction, and slavery is offensive. And it is reasonable for people to [be outraged by the fact that] we have a mascot nicknamed for a character in a film whose racist depictions are completely at odds with our own tradition. It is time to address this question.”You can see how someone like Brown would be totally in favor of blowing up both Mount Rushmore and the monuments to Washington and Jefferson in D.C. Cuz exactly the same "logic" that has impelled this idiot to demand the renaming of the mascot applies to destroying the monuments too.
