Socialism and the Green New Deal, vs. free markets

The so-called "elites" of today's Democrat party seem utterly disconnected from reality.

Specifically, consider their proposed “Green New Deal,” devised by Alexndria Ocasio-Cortez's handlers and touted as a way to end emissions of carbon dioxide; to convert 100 percent of power sources to renewable energy installations, thus replacing cheap, reliable energy with expensive, unreliable energy.

As an indicator of her link to reality, one of the pillars of this great plan would involve banning air travel.

Well, not ALL air travel, of course.  Just air travel by deplorables like you and me.

They want to replace jet airliners with high-speed rail.

They also want to eliminate...cows.

Why cows, you may ask?  Why, because cows--which can convert grass into food for humans--emit methane.

Wait, I thought the whole villain in this piece was the dread CARBON DIOXIDE.  How the hell does methane play a role?

It's because pound for pound, methane is a far more effective greenhouse gas than CO2.  So since the real goal is to halt the much-ballyhooed "global warming," the Dems have to get rid of methane too.

Oh, well then, got it.  But wait...research also says plain ol' WATER VAPOR has a stronger greenhouse effect than either CO2 or water vapor.  And because 75% of the Earth's surface is ocean, there's a gazillion times more water vapor in the air than CO2.  So how do the Dems plan to reduce water vapor, eh?

Ah, they don't, since there's no way to control that.

But wait...doesn't that mean that the entire Green Nude Eel effort, even if done by every nation on Earth, wouldn't change the greenhouse effect by even one percent?

Why yes, that's exactly right.

Um...so what's the point of banning cows and air travel?

Ah, you got it:  It's control.

Like Obamacare.
The Green New Deal is a crackpot enterprise that has enormous support from progressive economists and a staggeringly ignorant, partisan media.  Economists have estimated the GND would cost about $93 trillion over ten years, which is five times more than the entire US gross national product over that decade.

But hey, nothing but hard realism from our reality-altering elites.
Indeed, on the major issues of the historical moment—climate change, the war on terror, national borders, “social justice,” gender politics, race conflict, post-colonial theory, immigration— progressive "solutions" are full of absurdities.  Examples:
  • Mainstream Media writers who advocate exorbitant spending to neutralize debt (Paul Krugman);
  • politicians who endorse socialized medicine, at a cost of trillions (Barack Obama, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders);
  • senators who propose tax rates over 100 percent (Elizabeth Warren);
  • teachers who re-write history to push ideology (Howard Zinn);
  • politicians who champion near-unlimited Muslim refugee migration, generating communal strife, outright violence, and unsustainable welfare expenditure (Angela Merkel);
  • philosophers who affirm that truth is a relative concept—except for the truth of their own claims (Michel Foucault);
  • writers who promote violence as the road to millennial harmony (Slavoj Zizek);
  • feminists who advocate the homicidal culling of men to create a better world (Mona Eltahawy);
  • doctors who promote transgenderism and sex re-assignment surgery since the biological bodies we are born with are merely physical accessories (Ray Blanchard et al.);
  • post-colonial theorists who claim successful free-market societies are profiteering relics (Homi Bhabha);
  • geo-engineers who recommend shooting particles into the atmosphere to block the sun’s harmful rays (John Holden); and so on.
Turns out people seem to prefer freedom to the "command economy" of socialism.  Who knew?

Well, many years ago, when there were two Germanies (East and West), the communists built a wall down the middle of Berlin.  Thousands of East Germans risked their lives trying to cross into the free west.

How many people went the other way, even though the could have done so at no risk at all?

You can already guess: No one.

One wag described socialism as “If you build it, they will leave.”

Unless the guards shoot them for trying.
