PBS approvingly shows 4-to-8-year-olds a gay marriage...in a cartoon

"PBS" is the government television network.  It's funded in part by your taxes.  You don't have any choice in that decision.

One of the main missions of PBS is "quality" programming for kids.  And to fulfill that mission the network has run a childrens' cartoon called "Arthur" for 22 years.

One of the characters is the kids' teacher, "Mr. Ratburn."  The character has been male for the entire series.

Now, in the premiere of the show's 22nd season, Mr. Ratburn gets married.  The young students think he's marrying a girl they don't like, and this is made clear in the show.  But to their evident delight, their male teacher marries...another guy.

Now, is this significant?  Gay commenters on this story said that because the scenario reflected reality, it was appropriate, period.  Straights countered that there are some subjects that most rational adults agree are inappropriate to expose to children under a certain age.

Just so we're all on the same page here, "Arthur" is targeted at ages...4 to 8.

Seriously.

So is it appropriate to expose kids as young as 4 years old to gay marriage?  The gays give a resounding yes.  By contrast, what you think doesn't matter.  You have zero input on what PBS decides to broadcast to your 4-to-8 year-old.  Or on anyone else PBS does, for that matter.

This is how government works.  We'll do it our way, and if you don't like it, tough shit.

It's also worth noting that the "gay marriage" twist came up so fast that even the most alert parent who didn't want to broach this to their kid yet wouldn't have time to react.  But hey, it's all good, eh?  Because your betters who run PBS have decided what your kid needs to see, and when.  So if you don't agree...tough.
