Life in San Francisco is deteriorating after liberals voted to reduce penalties for crime

Lovely, sophisticated San Francisco is the nation’s leader in property crime.  The rate of car break-ins is particularly striking: in 2017 over 30,000 reports were filed.

Other "minor" crimes, including selling illegal drugs, camping on the sidewalk, indecent exposure,  "simple assault" and disorderly conduct are also rampant.

Many blame the crime wave on Proposition 47, a 2014 ballot initiative that slashed the penalties for theft of anything under $950 in value, and drug possession, from felonies to misdemeanors.

As you could have guessed, social-justice warriors disagree that Prop 47 played any role, but theft is indisputably booming, and narcotics activity is exploding on sidewalks, parks, and playgrounds.

Predictably, what liberals call "low-level, property crimes" are also destroying the retail market.  Stores in the Mission District are closing due to crippling theft.  In April CVS closed two pharmacies due to constant shoplifting.  Mom-and-pop businesses, wracked by what the SJW's call "minor losses," find it impossible to survive. Empty storefronts dot once-vibrant neighborhoods.

Having passed the ballot initiative that gave a green light to criminals, how are the liberals who've run the city for decades responding?  As you probably guessed, they want to reduce criminal prosecution and sentences even more.  The new social-justice battle is keeping people out of jail: in March, federal judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that San Francisco’s bail policy--requiring those charged with crimes to post a bond to be released--violates the rights of poor defendants.  Liberals want everyone charged with a crime to be released with no bond--because SJWs believe criminals with no assets and no address will show up for trial.  Oh, you bet.

Actually libs may be smart enough not to believe that crap, but must pretend they do or else they'll be attacked by their fellow libs.  Hmm.....

A local resident said “When we walk out our door we know we’ll see someone on drugs, in various states of undress, blood on sidewalks, and discarded sharps. These are crimes no one in city hall seems to care about.  If you say something about it, you’re called a fascist.”

Serial repeat-offenders--especially drug dealers--have no problem making bail, which is just a cost of doing business.”
