More Dem insanity: Cali governor claims his "sanctuary state" law not at all to blame for illegal killing officer

Outgoing California Gov. Jerry Brown--Democrat--says "sanctuary state" law had nothing to do with Cpl. Ronil Singh being fatally shot by illegal alien

If you hadn't heard, in California an illegal invader from Mexico shot and killed a policeman--who by chance was a legal immigrant.

The twist here is that the county sheriff had the illegal in custody before he shot the officer, but were barred by California's "sanctuary state" law--SB54--from notifying any federal agency.

Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson--visibly angry--said SB 54 kept state law enforcement officials from reporting Arriaga to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

You need to know that California has had a Democrat as governor, and the Dems have had a veto-proof "supermajority" in that sad state's legislature for years.  So when the Dems decided to pass SB54, they couldn't be stopped.  All perfectly legal, see?  And Brown promptly, eagerly, signed the damn thing.

The fatal shooting by the previously-detained illegal invader is a textbook example of how the Democrats' "sanctuary" law caused the officer's death--and lots of people recognized it.  So you'd think the Dem governor who signed the damn bill into law might admit that just maybe, the Democrat-rammed and signed law maybe wasn't a great idea, right?

But Brown is a Democrat, which means not rational and barely sane, so such second thoughts never occurred to him.  So when a local TV interviewer asked Brown if he thought shielding illegal aliens from federal immigration authorities,  as SB 54 does, would lead to an increase in illegal alien crime, Brown responded “No, I don’t think so.”

Brown claimed the murder had nothing to do with the law of California, instead saying “I think people are looking to blame somebody because of the terrible things that happened.”

Brown signed SB 54, which limited state and local law enforcement agencies’ cooperation with federal immigration officials, into law in 2017, and some officials say the 2017 law is to blame for Singh’s death.

Of particular interest is Brown's rationale for claiming his "sanctuary state" law played no role in the fatal shooting:  He claimed that the killer had been arrested multiple times before the sanctuary law went into effect, and that federal immigration authorities could have arrested him then.  Except even before SB54 was signed into law, the state's attorney-general (now senator Kamala Harris) had signalled that the state would look harshly on any state employee who notified ICE when they had a criminal illegal alien in custody.

Brown also blamed General Motors for allowing the killer to drive one of their cars, since if he hadn't had a car, the officer couldn't have stopped him for DUI.  Brown also blamed the company that brews Dos Equis for allowing him to drink their beer, since if they'd taken "ordinary, reasonable and prudent measures to keep alcohol out of the hands of drivers," the alien wouldn't have had the opportunity to "do the terrible things that happened," as Brown put it.

Finally, Brown blamed the Second Amendment, saying that if only the U.S. had banned private gun ownership, the alien wouldn't have had such a tempting murder weapon.

Okay, the last two 'grafs are sarc.  But they're no more stupid than Brown claiming that because ICE didn't arrest the killer when state authorities had him jailed back before Brown signed SB54, then SB54's command barring state employees from notifying ICE now isn't at all to blame.

Insane.
