Things were so AWFUL four years ago!

I was chatting with some liberal friends the other day.

"So," I said, "what do you see as the problems the Dems need to solve to get Obama re-elected?"

"Well, unemployment is one of the biggest problems," said one. "We need to bring it back down to 7 percent by next summer at the latest."

Another said, "We've got to bring this year's federal deficit down from the current $1.4 trillion--at least that's what they said it was a month ago. If we could get the current annual deficit back to, say, $400 billion we'd be in great shape."

A third said, "We also need to find a way to reduce the total national debt by a third or so. Get it back down under, say, ten trillion. And of course that's not really Obama's fault. He inherited a nine trillion dollar debt when he took office, and it's only up to, what 12 trillion now?"

The first guy added, "Polls show two out of three Americans say they think the country's headed in the wrong direction. We have to get that confidence rating back to at least 50/50."

And finally the 2nd guy again: "And we've got to figure out how to capture that crazy Libyan dictator, get a democratic caretaker government in place, get their voters registered and allow the people enough stability to develop political parties and field candidates for a nationwide free election in a year."

I thought for a moment.

"So," I said, "what you're saying is you want to return to exactly the conditions when George W. Bush was president."
