Who dis?

Who dis'?

If you pay attention to national politics you recognized the deranged, angry bitch above as the Attorney-General of New York, Letitia James.

Letitia was elected for her good looks and delightful personality.  Wait, maybe not.  Oh, dat right: she campaigned on a vow to target Trump, calling him an "illegitimate president" and vowing to "use every area of the law" to investigate him and his businesses.   And once elected, that's what she did.

Trump used some of his real estate properties as collateral for a loan.  The loan application wanted an estimate of their value, and Trump (or more likely his attorneys) entered what he thought they were worth.

But James was able to find Democrat appraisers who were willing to say the collateral properties were worth less than Trump thought.

Now: The banks looked over the numbers and didn't see anything amiss.  Trump got the loan and paid it back on time, with interest.  But that didn't sway James a whit.  Using her years of experience in commercial real estate, she agreed with her hand-picked Democrat appraisers that Trump had overestimated the value of the properties.

Wait, James has had no experience at all with commercial real estate, but decided that her hand-picked group of Democrat appraisers was right...and she charged Trump with fraud.

Now the hoot here is: Suppose someone just paid $100 million for a painting that looks like it was done by a 3rd-grader on meth, and which last sold for $30 million.  Suppose further that the buyer pledges the painting as collateral for a big loan, valuing it at $100 million.  But James comes along and says no, it's only worth what someone paid for it 20 years ago, so you've just committed fraud.

See how that works?

The case ended up in before a totally nutso leftist judge name Arthur Engoron.  In a non-jury trial Engoron  ruled for James, and fined Trump $340 million.  With interest from the day the application was submitted, the fine came to over half a BILLION dollars.

Neat how that worked, eh?

Trump appealed, but was ordered to post a bond for the entire amount until the appeal court issued its ruling.  Ironically, posting a bond is like borrowing money--you pay interest.

Two  days ago an appeals court in New York allowed the conviction to stand, but  ruled that the $515 Million-dollar fine violated the Constitution's ban on "excessive fines."

Which it clearly did.

NOW...if you thought that would end the matter, you clearly just arrived on the planet.  Do enjoy your stay.  Cuz James--who get to use virtually infinite taxpayer dollars for anything she decides to do--has appealed to an even higher NY court, which is likely to take another year to issue its ruling in the matter.

She and Engoron actually thought a $515 MILLION-dollar fine for a difference of opinion was reasonable.  And if that pair would try to crush the president like that, imagine how they laugh when they torture ordinary working people.
