Mystery at Indiana University

A prominent Chinese computer scientist at Indiana U has vanished, along with his Chinese wife.

Xiaofeng Wang had been in the U.S. for over 20 years, specializing in crypto.  He was a tenured professor at IU.

Now the weird thing: within days the university had removed every reference to him from its website: his professor profile, email account and phone number.  Same for his wife, who also worked at IU.

Now: university adminishits are notoriously spineless.  If a tenured professor killed someone on video, adminishits would balk at removing all traces of the guy.  And yet in this case, they erased the guy--and his wife--instantly.  Why?

The utterly clueless, crazy leftists commenting at the website below say the guy and his wife have been kidnapped by duh eeeebil gruberment.  Really, sparky?  Think, morons: if the government found a Chinese spy that had been here over 20 years (long before even Trump's first term), do ya really think they wouldn't make a big announcement?  Nah, they'd put him on trial, later swap him for an American imprisoned in China.

C'mon, morons, how do you not see the obvious answer?  When the guy and his wife vanish AND his university employer erases all traces of him instantly, it's clear he was spying for China and that he and his wife have fled back to their homeland.

Other professors were sure their Chinese colleague could not possibly have been spying.  Instead they bleated that he'd been snatched by the eebil gov-ment and deported.  Except they couldn't explain why the university had scrubbed all traces of the guy from the university's website.

The website at the link is leftist, and the comments are a hoot.  Honestly, it seems as though half the country really believes (or claims to) that we're living in Nazi Germany.  Examples:

*Disappearing people is all part of the fascist police state game plan.  Trump talking seriously about a third term.

*I’ve seen scenes like this before… in Russia.

*We should be used to this by now.  If you're an academic from outside the US you will be arrested and deported after no trial or case hearing.

Nah, bro, the FBI would put out a press release saying they'd nabbed the guy.  Defense attorneys would be bleating "He's innocent!"  Neither happened here.

*This doesn’t fit the pattern of the other deportations. The university clearly knows something but probably has a gag order.

Moron: when the spying is revealed (in two years) the university wants to be able to say "We barely knew him, let alone who hired him or awarded him tenure.

Now two questions: first, what do ya think the guy was working on (and spying for China about) that was important enough to risk prison?

And second--and more worrisome:  who tipped the guy off that the FBI was closing in on him?  That should scare ya, since it means the FBI or CIA or NSA has a spy at high levels.  Which is true.  And there's way more than one.
