Dem governor said his state was a "sanctuary state"--until biden wanted to move illegals to his state

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey.

In 2017, while running for governor, Mr. Murphy sought votes from leftists by pledging that if elected he would make New Jersey a “sanctuary state.”

(For young Americans that means the state wouldn't help enforce U.S. immigration laws. So if local cops arrested an illegal alien for, say, theft, and they knew Immigration had issued a "hold" on him for deportation, state authorities would release the illegal alien before Immigration had time to get there and arrest him.
  This may puzzle you if you've heard that the biden regime stopped deporting even hardened criminal who illegally enter the U.S.  But back when OrangeManBad was president, the feds did deport illegal aliens who'd been convicted of crimes in their home country, or in the U.S.  But in "sanctuary states" even if the local cops had jailed an illegal, the governor's policy or a state law required them to release the illegal before Immigration had time to show up to arrest him for deportation.  Crazy, eh?)

But suddenly--mysteriously--ol' Phil has totally reversed his earlier position on New Jersey being a "sanctuary state."  And inquiring minds wanna know why.

Simple: Texas and Arizona have been deluged by millions of illegals welcomed by the biden regime, and they finally got smart and bused a tiny handful--60,000 out of five MILLION--to New York City, which sent the black Democrat mayor of that city, and the cunning governor of New York (the ghastly Kathy Hochul) into fits.

So to calm voters in NY and keep living NY voters voting Democrat (the dead always vote Dem), the biden regime quietly proposed moving "some" of the 60,000 illegals in NYC to...can ya guess?

Dat right!  To neighboring New Jersey!  But the regime cunningly proposed to move the invaders to an *airport*, since that wouldn't trigger nearly the opposition that putting 'em in a town would.  Clever, eh?

But citizens of New Jersey were furious.  They'd seen the destruction and lawlessness of the illegals in other states, and wanted no part of it.  And being a savvy politician, ol' Phil picked up on this right away.  Hence his instantaneous U-turn on "sanctuary state."
 
Ol' "sanctuary Phil" bleated “I don't see any scenario where we're going to be able to take in [illegal aliens] in Atlantic City or frankly elsewhere in the state.”

What's amusing is that Phil has strongly supported Democrat open-borders policies over the past years--as long as the illegals were in some other state.  But now that they're about to come to HIS state, suddenly Phil has changed his tune.
