James Kunstler, demons, and Vichy France

James Kunstler is a smart but very cynical analyst.  Writes thoughtful (if cynical) pieces Mondays and Fridays.  Kunstler posits that the federal government is run by what might be called demons--beings who know they can do anything, kill anyone, tell any lie, no matter how absurd and brazen--and will never be called to account, let alone punished.

And as with many anti-regime types on the Net, his commenters are also quite good.  One of the points a commenter made today was that the demons--the utterly corrupt bastards that infest every level of the federal government--are so entrenched, so protected from punishment, so arrogant, that they can never be called to account.  The commenter wrote 

I don’t think these demons can be stopped by voting, or by the courts.  There will always be another corrupt judge to overturn the lower court and save the demon.  That’s what Trump's all-too-brief four years showed every American.  Only a foreign power, or more than one, can possibly dislodge and jail them.   Like the Nazis. 

There's a grain of truth in that--but sadly only a grain.   While it's true that being defeated by a stronger enemy would result in lots of official of the regime being stripped of their pensions and assets, perhaps even a handful being executed, it wouldn't be nearly enough.  But more to the point:  The demons would appeal to the best and bravest of Americans to join the armed forces to (quote) "save the nation."

And a few tens of thousands of brave souls--willing to sacrifice their lives to defend "the nation"-- would sign up, not realizing that they were being asked to sacrifice their lives to save...the demons.

And when the ghastly war was over, either the sacrifice of tens of thousands of unselfish souls would have maintained the demons at the top, or...the demons would go to ground with their millions and live well while ordinary Americans suffered under communist rule.

If you doubt that--think it absurd, impossible--read about "Vichy France."  That's the name given to the toadies who governed France after France surrendered to Germany in WW2.  If you never heard the term before, ask your parents.  Don't be surprised if they don't know either.  It's something the K-12 "skool" system doesn't want you to know.  The Mainstream Media never does any History Channel pieces on it, because it shows the venal side of the demons.
