The all-pork $3.5 TRILLION "social infrastructure" bill that the Dems have rigged so it can't be filibustered
I suspect most of y'all don't believe the title above--that the Dems rigged this massive spending bill so the GOP couldn't filibuster it. But it's true. The way they did it was to invoke a rule that allows the party that controls the senate to designate ONE budget bill each year as a "reconciliation bill," which by rule can't be filibustered. So they declared that this huge $3.5 Trillion bill was the reconciliation bill.
Now you may be curious as to why the Dems want to prevent a filibuster on this bill. It's because if a filibuster isn't allowed, the bill can pass on a simple majority--which the Dems effectively have. This allowed the Dem leaders to pack the bill with roughly $3 TRILLION in pure pork--leftist wish-list items that could never pass on their own merits. For example, $250 Billion in "green new deal" pork, a cool billion in payoffs to liberal newspapers, "free" child daycare, "free" community college, and the big jackpot: amnesty for all illegal aliens--estimated to be about 30 million.
Since y'all surely watch the "news," you surely saw how that decision turned out, right? Sure: the "parliamentarian of the senate" ruled that since amnesty for all illegals would obligate taxpayers for roughly a trillion dollars in new welfare of all types--thus having a huge effect on the federal budget--amnesty constituted a "major policy change," so couldn't be passed by reconciliation.
Of course "progressive" Dems--in the House as well as the senate--immediately urged Schumer to simply ignore the parliamentarian's decision. Hmmm....
At last report the Dems are applying pressure to the parliamentarian--who is a life-long Democrat, female, middle-aged. Any bets on whether she re-thinks her decision?
