Austin, Texas doubles down on Democrats' "easy-on-criminals" policy
LIke other Democrat-ruled cities, the Peoples' Republic of Austin--highly progressive, pro-illegal-alien, pro-socialism--has been having some crime problems in the last year. So what did the clever proggies do?
Last year they pushed an initiative to cut the budget of the city's police department by a cool $150 million. That cut was approved by the communist-run city council.
As a result, 15 to 20 city cops are leaving the force every month.
Rational adults--i.e. not progressives--who see the cuts as allowing criminals to commit crimes with impunity--have now countered with an initiative to hire about 500 new officers. It's called Proposition A.
WELL...! The good "progressive" Democrats of Austin were absolutely HORRIFIED by this outrageous new initiative, so they asked their Lord and Master to help.
And George Soros's "Open Society Policy Center"--one of Soros’ political action groups--quickly gave $500,000 to a local group that opposes Proposition A.
Proposition A is on the November ballot for Austin voters. The communist mayor openly opposes it, as do various members of the city council and the city’s numerous progressive activist groups.
What's a bit worrisome here is NOT that the mayor is against hiring more cops, but that he OPENLY opposes doing that. In earlier time mayors who didn't like cops would have made a show of supporting the proposition to the voters while working behind the scenes to kill the Proposition. The fact that this mayor openly opposes the measure shows a total, insolent indifference to the effects of record crime on Austin residents. Is anyone surprised?
