How the notion of dangerous "Global Warming" took off
If you're an American you've been told--endlessly, relentlessly--by your so-called "betters" in the Mainstream Media and Hollywood that a) our planet is getting hotter; b) that this is unprecedented--the planet has never been so hot; and c) the warming trend is NOT due to natural causes like the sun or upwelling magma, but is caused by...c'mon, you know, right? The dreaded, poisonous gas carbon dioxide [sarc].
Now, if you're not a climate scientist or a history major, you have no idea whether any of these claims are true. Your elite "betters" know this, so they know they can lie brazenly, outrageously, with no worry that they'll be called out for it. (And even if someone nailed 'em to the wall, why should they care, eh? They'll never be fired for lying, cuz the people who run CNN and MSNBC and the other alphabet networks actively want to push these lies.)
But their lies are so easy to expose--just a bit of history will do it. So below is a brief history of climate in Europe for the last 1100 years or so. Notice that between 1000 and 1400 A.D. is a 400-year period of unusually warm temperature. It's called the Medieval Warm Period, and has been universally recognized for at least the last 200 years or so.
One of the ways we know about the MWP is that when Danish colonists settled Greenland they were able to grow grapes there. For 300 years or so.
If you're not a wine fan, grapes require a warm climate to grow. Think France or Italy or California.
Alas for the Danes, the Medieval Warm Period ended and Greenland turned back into an icebox. No more grapes in Greenland.
Since the automobile wouldn't be invented for another few centuries, the MWP is, shall we say, a major problem for the lying bastards who're pushing thebullshit that CO2 emitted by burning carbon fuels is causing dangerousglobal warming climate change.
Now let me call your attention to a second area of interest in the historic temperature record. From about 1570 to 1700 Europe had a period of unusually cold weather. The Thames River froze solid--the ice thick enough to support horses and carriages almost every year.
That unusually cold spell--now called the Little Ice Age--has been universally recognized for over two centuries. And like the MWP, it poses a serious problem for the liars who're pushingGlobal Warming climate change, because it destroys one of the crucial pillars of their theory, which is that if the temperature of the planet warms slightly, this will trigger "feedback" that will make the warming worse, so that a tiny 1-degree increase will turn into a deadly 6 degrees or so.
The existence of the Little Ice Age after the Medieval Warm Period destroys the "dangerous feedback" theory.
Oooh, what to do, what to do??
"Ah!" said the warmists. "Let's just airbrush those two huge anomalies out of existence! Since Americans know nothing about European history--and specifically climate history--they won't notice a thing! Yeah, dat's it!!!"
Of course you don't believe a word of that. You can't believe any serious scientist would be so brazen as to try that. I mean, wouldn't other scientists realize what he'd done? Wouldn't they blow the whistle if someone tried such a brazen fraud?
Hahahahahahaha! I see you just arrived on the planet.
Allow me to introduce you to a fraud named Michael Mann, PhD, who published a paper that laid the foundation for the hysteria aboutGlobal Warming climate change. As Mann's graph below shows, he literally erased both the MWP and the LIA, producing a graph that purported to show scary warming just since 1910 or so--a graph that resembled a hocky stick.
Hackers even found emails between Mann and other "PhD experts" discussing how they could possibly "eliminate the MWP" and the LIA. You'd think the discovery of those emails would have totally disgraced Mann and his co-conspirators, but the Lying Mainstream Media solved that problem by barely mentioning it, and spinning the news as "eeeevil computer hackers--RUSSIANS!--are attacking our wonderful scientists who are just trying to save us."
Interestingly, a couple of other experts--yes, PhDs--called Mann's work scientific fraud. Mann responded by suing them. But amazingly, one Canadian expert counter-sued, demanding that Mann prove his paper in open court, where it could be challenged. The case has dragged on for years, but earlier this year a Canadian judge finally gave Mann 30 days to produce all his original data for trial.
Mann refused, and the judge granted "summary judgment" to the Canadian expert. We'll see how this plays out, but at this point it looks as though the "wall" is beginning to crumble.
Of course the notion that CO2 is NOT warming the Earth dangerously should be good news. Unless you're a Democrat politician or presidential candidate.
