Teacher fired for giving zeros to students who failed to turn in an assignment; district lies

Sometimes a relatively insignificant event gives us a glimpse of a far bigger picture.

In Florida a teacher at West Gate school in Port Lucie gave her students an assignment.  A few students didn't turn it in, and she gave 'em a zero.

Whereupon the sh*t-for-brains "administrators" who rule the school...fired her.

Turns out the school's student and parent handbook actually contains the statement

"NO ZEROS- LOWEST POSSIBLE GRADE IS 50%."

The teacher thought this only applied to a case where a student turned in garbage, and said said she asked the "administrators" what score should be given to a student who simply refused to turn in anything.  She says they told her “We give them a 50.”

The principal of the school sent her a letter on Sept. 14 firing her, but did not state the reason she was being fired.  Sensing the beginnings of criticism, the principal referred media questions to the district public information office--and here's where things get more interesting. The "chief information officer" for the district released a statement saying "There is no District or individual school policy prohibiting teachers from recording a grade of zero for work not turned in."

When asked about West Gate’s “no zeros” policy--which is actually printed in the school's handbook and thus hard to deny--the slimy weasel said, “Some classroom teachers and school faculties have discussed the range of points for work submitted in each grading category.”

That's called dodging the question. The district says "We have policy barring a zero grade," but the school has a printed guide saying precisely "No zeros--lowest possible grade is 50%." 

So the spokesweasel has to either say "That school is violating our policy," or dodge the question.  Naturally he doesn't want to admit that a school isn't following "policy," so he dodged.  Typical weasel.

The teacher says this offers a huge lesson: “We have a nation of kids who expect they'll get paid just for showing up.  That's not real.” 

Unfortunately in the Democrat/socialist-ruled parts of the country this is all too real.  It's exactly the policy those who run things are determined to establish.  Young people have been taught by Democrats, teachers and the media that they can indeed get everything they want "for free."  All they need to do is elect Democrats.
