Chris Matthews pushes "Obama as Hero" myth
With Obamacare screwing millions of Americans, the economy still dismal and foreign policy a disaster, watch carefully as the liberal media pivot to push the narrative of...The Cult of Barack Obama.
The media pushes the story of Obama as the Hero--and Republicans, naturally, as the villains. In this heroic myth, Obama's myriad policy failures simply don't matter, except to the extent they provide opportunities for drama as the Hero fights for those policies against the ever-present Villains.
Nowhere is this slobbering media adulation more obvious than in Chris Matthews interview of Obama. Matthews virtually avoided policy questions, instead focusing on Obama's emotional response to these challenges. Again and again Matthews and his panel focused not on serious questions of state but on what toll these problems took on the Hero, Barack Obama.
And the audience for President Obama: The Movie just loved it. Here's ultra-liberal Howard Fineman:
In case anyone didn't get the Hero-versus-Villains fable, here's Matthews on Obama-loving MSNBC:
Chris Matthews is crazy.

[We] got a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a president talking about what it’s like to be president, while he’s actually president. He’s gone from Superman to Sisyphus [!] .... He has a more mature, moral view. I thought he made the moral case for Obamacare....I’ve never seen anything like it...he made a very compelling case for his own decency....Again, they avoid discussing the Hero's policies--they're only interested in the Hero's Journey. Gun control, "comprehensive immigration reform or health-care "reform" are trivial compared to Obama's frustration at being denied them or his joy in attaining them.
In case anyone didn't get the Hero-versus-Villains fable, here's Matthews on Obama-loving MSNBC:
The difference between the way [South Africa's last white president] F.W.deKlerk handled the need for change and the election of Nelson Mandela – legitimate election, he was never truly elected [sic]-- was to be a patriot at that point is so different [sic] than the way [Republican senator] Mitch McConnell handled the election of Obama. The McConnell people onto the far right were willing to destroy the country in order to destroy Obama....We have real people in this country with real power and status who have used that status of power to hurt the country so they could hurt the president. That’s the most damming assessment I’ve heard and, I think, the truest. This is absolutely mind-boggling: Not only does Matthews claim "people with power" want to hurt the country--easy enough to believe since they're the "progressives" but that's not who he means--but he goes even further into liberal fantasy-land by implying that the reason these mysterious people hurt the country was...to hurt the Hero, good King Barack.
Chris Matthews is crazy.
