Govt: "That rain falling on you? It belongs to us! "

h/t to commenter "Conscious but Incoherent" at Ace's:

Bet you never thought about who owns the rain that falls on your property. Should be a no-brainer, right?

Well, the state of Utah--and possibly some others--has claimed it owns all rainfall, even rain that falls on your property. link

Car dealer Mark Miller found this out the hard way. After building a system to catch rainwater at his new dealership--to use for washing cars--the State informed Miller that the project was an "unlawful diversion of rainwater."

State officials worked out a compromise with Miller and are now allowing him to use "their" rainwater, but the fact that any government would claim to own the rain that falls on private property is a true indicator of how much power governments now claim--and how much freedom we've lost in the U.S. in the last few decades.

And especially in the last 18 months.

Remember in November.
