"We're the media now"

Saw an interesting discussion of where we can get at least fairly reliable, unbiased news today.  And one commenter noted that because of the Internet, "the people have replaced the the Media now.  And those long established former monopolists don’t like that one bit."

Before the Internet, if something wasn’t reported, as far as most people knew, it didn’t happen. That gave the media a staggering amount of power, which was probably the goal.

Your local radio and TV stations covered local outrages, and put the big ones on the AP wire or the network feeds.  But the editors and producers who controlled what made it to national news were all liberal Democrats, if not outright leftists.  So anything that make socialism or communism look good, or made capitalism look bad, made it, while any news that went the opposite way didn't.

Today, if something happens anywhere in the country--even if it's ignored by the local stations and papers--we find out in an hour or so.

And that allows us to compare notes--and names. And we start seeing the same names popping up again and again.
