How the NY Times tells the "cool kids" what's cool

All the "cool kids" (adults) read the New York Times and the Atlantic.  And one of the many ways those Dem shill rags--and the rest of the Lying Mainstream Media--let their liberal/Dem readers know whats "cool" is by running fawning stories about what's cool.  Like this one:

In Marin County, There’s Trouble in Teslaville
Teslas used to be a status symbol in liberal Mill Valley, Calif.  Now they're despised by many — including those who drive them.

In the parking lots of Mill Valley, Calif., index cards appear on the windshields of Teslas saying “Stop Elon,” and “Dump your Tesla.”

A few years ago, buying a Tesla in Mill Valley was a status symbol: It showed you were "progressive," an environmentalist. It meant you belonged.  And in a county that voted for Harris by 81%, that was huge.

For years, Teslas were the Ferrari for progressives.  But since the presidential election the once-cool electric cars have come to mean something else for Mill Valley residents.

While "activists" [gotta love the Times: "activists" as opposed to thug vandals] elsewhere have set fire to Tesla charging stations, keyed swastikas into Tesla vehicles and sprayed graffiti on dealerships, the battle raging in Mill Valley is an internal war within the minds and hearts of liberal, Musk-hating Tesla owners, their precious environmentalism overcome by their rage toward Elon Musk.

California drivers own far more electric vehicles per capita than residents in any other state. And Marin County has more Teslas than anywhere but Silicon Valley.
But Marin is far more liberal than the Silicon Valley.  In last year’s presidential election 81 percent of voters in Marin supported Harris.

To give you an idea of the mind-set and politics, in Mill Valley an unexceptional house can cost $2 million.  The climate is fabulous year-round.  But Trump, Musk, DOGE and the effort to remove illegals [the Times describes this as "the country’s strife] has disturbed the vibe even in blissed-out Mill Valley.  Tesla owners--frantic to avoid being cast as "not cool"--are now desperate to show how much they hate their Teslas.

Residents haven’t been afraid to express strong opinions. Some who despise Mr. Musk regularly protest on the freeway overpass between Mill Valley and the closest Tesla dealership. Seniors for Peace has added Tesla to its list of grievances during the group’s regular Friday protests.

One owner tried to show she was reliably cool by putting a big sticker on the back of her Tesla with the word "Elon" crossed out in red.  So she was shocked to find one of those index cards

Another Mill Valley resident bought his Tesla in 2022 for about $64,000, but said he put it up for sale after he saw Mr. Musk give a straight-arm salute that Democrats and the Media claimed was a Nazi salute.

He got $28,000 for it.

He expressed the popular feeling: “I had to get rid of that thing as soon as I could.”

Another resident said he's thought about driving his Tesla to the dealership and setting it on fire because he hated Mr. Musk’s politics so much.

The index-card shamer turned out to be 75-year-old Debbid Coller, a Democrat (of course) who was once a Green Party member and said she admired Bernie Sanders. She protested the Vietnam War in college and has participated in several demonstrations against Mr. Trump.

She says she was inspired by leftist singer Sheryl Crow, who made national news for donating her Tesla to National Public Radio.

Coller says she's concerned that Musk’s federal cuts would jeopardize the Social Security checks and Medicare coverage that she and her husband rely on.

Note that sentence well, young readers: an unbiased editor would insist on adding a fact-check line saying "Both Trump and Musk have said there won't be any cuts to Social Security or Medicare."  So here's what the Times added:

Mr. Musk has said he was focused on finding fraud in entitlement programs and called Social Security “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time,” though Mr. Trump has denied he would cut benefits.

Wow, "the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time."  Yeah, that was designed to inflame moronic readers, and it almost certainly did.

Ms. Coller says she thinks Tesla owners should sell their cars and donate the funds to charities, abandon them at Tesla dealerships or at least put anti-Musk stickers on their bumpers.

Heather Barberie, who bought a Tesla in 2020, said she is currently unemployed as an actor and can't afford to sell.  “If I had money we could just take our Tesla out to the desert and blow it up and have a little bonfire around it,” she said. “But we can't afford to replace our car right now.”

Instead, she unscrewed the “T” logo from the front, hoping that it made the vehicle a little less conspicuous.

This, folks, is what we're up against.  These mostly-wealthy people hate Trump and Musk with a passion--so much that they fantasize about burning or blowing up their own cars that they loved so much when Musk was a Democrat.

They will donate everything they can to the Democrats for the midterm elections.  And the Times editors will smirk "Mission accomplished."
