Clinton-appointed judge blocks Trump order that only citizens can vote in fed elections

Last month Trump signed an executive order designed to prevent non-citizens from voting in federal elections.

Instantly and predictably the Democrat National Committee and assorted leftist groups sued, screaming dat dis wuz, like, *totally* undemocratic!  Barred by ouah wunnerful Constitution! (which Dems only support when it helps them).

And yesterday (4/24) U.S. district judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly-- a Bill Clinton appointee--blocked that order.

See, it's right there in the Constitution, deplorables!  Article 12, section V: "Everyone living in the U.S. is entitled to vote!"  Geez, it's so clear to the Clinton judge!  So shut up!

The lawsuit, filed by the Democratic National Committee and leftist voting rights groups, claims Trump’s order is “an unlawful action that threatens to uproot our tried-and-tested election systems and silence potentially millions of Americans.”

<<Wait...WHUT?  If neither the Constitution nor any law allows non-citizens to vote, how is Trump's EO an "unlawful action"?  "Threatens to uproot ouah 'tried-and-tested election systems and silence millions of Americans"?  Are you kidding?

Unless you follow legal crap closely you don't realize that what the Dems are really pushing here is the idea that non-citizens have the right to vote.  Of course the Dems aren't literally saying that, but are couching this as "It WAY too hahd fo' 'marginalized groups' t'git birf' certificates or such!"  But as of today you need a "RealID" to fly or drive, and that wraps up almost everyone in the U.S.

Democrats claim states can establish their own election processes (true within federal limits) and that only Congress can take action to override state laws related to federal elections (utter horseshit).

So...does the Constitution say only citizens are allowed to vote in federal elections?

No, it doesn't.  And a clever GOP strategy would be to propose a constitutional Amendment that would restrict voting to citizens.  Let the Democrats oppose it.

SO...courts have ruled that presidential executive orders "have the force of law" unless they're unconstitutional or violate existing federal law.  Trump's memo does neither.

But because the Constitution is silent on who's allowed to vote, the question will have to decided in court.  So the judge’s ruling means that yet another Trump action will be tied up in the courts and prevented from taking effect. Federal judges have now blocked 108 Trump orders, including on cuts to federal agency staff, deportations, and birthright citizenship.

And the final twist: *Because* the Constitution is silent, a Democrat-controlled congress and prez could pass a law saying non-citizens could vote.  So even if the *current* SC ruled that only citizens can vote, that could be undone by a law passed later, since the Constitution says nothing one way or the other.
