Drug cartel had a mole in the U.S. Attorney's office in San Antonio. Just one? Pardon my skepticism

Jennifer Loya had a job as a paralegal with the U.S. Attorney's office in San Antonio.  As part of her job Loya was given access to information about drug investigations and drug-enforcement raids.

She is suspected of tipping off drug-trafficking organizations in the San Antonio area.
Last Friday she was arrested and has been charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine as well as obstruction of justice.

She was released on a $50,000 bond
As part of the hiring process, the U.S. Attorney's office said Loya had undergone a full background investigation--which apparently failed to discover that Loya's sister was married to a cartel drug smuggler.

Really?  A "full background investigation" failed to pick that up?

While that's possible, I'd be looking at both the people hired to do the background check--AND whoever hired her.  About 20 years ago we learned that the cartels had totally infiltrated the Miami office of the DEA, with the result that the cartels knew about every raid and every radar plane's schedule and flight path.  My guess is that Loya isn't the only person in the U.S. Attorney's office who's working for the cartels.
