During Obama's reign, his FCC proposed that you'd have to have a govt license to blog

When a despotic head of a modern state wants to do something he or she thinks might provoke citizens to action, they do it by having some state agency propose the change.  If the proposal doesn't ignite a firestorm of protest, the dictator know he or she can go ahead without much risk.

Totalitarians hate a free internet, where citizens can not only voice their opinions, but offer thousands of others the chance to actually read those opinions.  Far better (for dictators) to limit reporting to a few papers and TV stations--all of which are carefully controlled, of course.  That way the dictator never has to worry about his or her corruption being exposed.

In the last two years of the Obama regime, the emperor's allies in the media started a campaign to demonize what the media (and Fakebook, and Google) labelled "fake news"--which it blamed on individual bloggers.  In response, the FCC--controlled by Democrats loyal to the emperor--floated a proposal to require anyone wanting to post anything remotely like a blog or personal opinion on the internet to buy a license from the FCC.

"We're just doing this for your own good," they said.  "Cuz these 'blogger' people are posting fake news!  And you don't want to fall for that, do you, citizen?  Plus, think of all the time we'll be saving you, by keeping all that fake news off the internet!"

And the Dems on the FCC--and Obama apparatchiks like Ben Rhodes--held their breath and waited to see if anyone noticed.

Amazingly, a few people did.  And they started asking the FCC very pointed questions.  Like...
  • Who gets to determine what will get defined as "opinion"?
  • Will the government require a license to post facts (like the horrible labor-force participation percentage under Obama), without telling readers what those facts imply?
They asked more questions, but these were the main ones.  And ordinary citizens, reading these questions (which go to the heart of the First Amendment's right of free speech) started writing the FCC, and their congress-critters, saying "Over my dead and twitching body."

And the Obama apparatchiks were forced to make a tough decision:  They hated bloggers, and wanted blogging effectively banned, but were also a tiny bit gun-shy (heh!) about angering even ten percent of voters just as the 2016 presidential campaigns were starting.

So Team Obama decided to shelve this proposal for the present.  Knowing, of course, that Hilliary could re-start it after she was elected by the predicted landslide.

Naturally you think this is fiction--couldn't possibly be true, right?  Well here's how the elected leader of another country did exactly the same thing:
Today [name of country] ordered all unregistered bloggers and online forums to "suspend their websites immediately" or face criminal prosecution.

Several sites, including a popular online discussion platform, said on Monday they had shut down after the state-run Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) warned it would take legal action against unlicensed websites.

Regulations passed three months ago required bloggers and owners of other online forums such as YouTube channels to register with the government and pay the equivalent of $900 for a licence. Per capita income in [that country] is around $900 a year.

Government officials claim the new rules are aimed at blocking hate speech, pornography and other online crimes such as cyberbullying.

Anyone convicted of defying the new regulations faces a fine of at least [twice the average yearly income], imprisonment for a minimum 12 months, or both.
Keep in mind that the government that did this was elected (no idea if fraud was a factor, just as we have no idea how many illegal aliens vote every year here in the U.S.)

And note the pious alleged reasons for requiring that no one could post opinions or forums without a government license:  Supposedly to eliminate "hate speech," pornography and other cyber-crimes.

Now, I don't blame you if you feel absolutely certain such a scheme could never be implemented here.  After all, we have the unique Constitutional guarantee of free speech, right?  But Obama's FCC really did propose such a plan, First Amendment notwithstanding.  And look how Team Obama ran roughshod over the Second and Tenth Amendments.  Look how many federal judges have opined that the Constitution is no longer the supreme law of the land.

If you think the Democrats--likely joined by at least half of the RINO class--wouldn't support this proposal you're dreaming.
