No criminal charge in $1.6 Billion theft of investor funds in Corzine firm
When a politician is caught red-handed violating the law--as in, taped phone conversations showing the guy absolutely, undeniably knew about a huge violation but did nothing to correct it or stop it--what happens next depends on the political party of the lawbreaker.
Republican? Go to jail. Most Democrats? No substantive penalty--and often no penalty whatsoever. And not a peep of outrage from the Lyin' Media.
Latest example: former head of a trading firm named "MF Global," Jon Corzine. Company was found to have taken--stolen--$1.6 Billion of investor funds and used it to cover trading losses in the woefully mismanaged company.
Prosecutors had recorded telephone conversations to support their allegation that Corzine was fully aware of the transfers. In one such call an employee told Corzine that some of the funds "transferred" from customer accounts had not been returned, the lawsuit said. Corzine's only substantive response was to ask if the employee had transferred enough money back to the customer accounts “to be in compliance.” The employee replied, “No.”
Here's a link to a very sketchy (17 sentences) story. It's in the NY Post so hard to say, but the main point is that prosecutors have decided not to charge Corzine criminally. Sweet, eh?
Oh, for those who won't bother to Google him, Corzine was a major Obama cash "bundler" (no, not "bungler"--that would be Obama and his treasury secretary) and a Democrat--former governor of New Jersey and senator from the same state.
And for those betting: Correct, the Post article never mentioned Corzine's political party, in keeping with modern journalistic principles of either not naming a crook's political party or else putting it as near the end of the article as possible if said crook is a Democrat.
But Noooo, there's not a trace of pro-Democrat bias in the media. In fact, the media is biased in favor of conservatives! You say you hadn't noticed that? Oh, it's a mainstay of DU, Kos and the rest of the Left.
In fact, I suspect if you simply recited the facts of the Corzine case and asked the listener to guess the political party of Mr. Corzine, I suspect they'd almost universally guess Republican.
Good work, media!
