Florida’s no-children-at-drag shows law upheld by federal appeals court
And not in some clubs at ten pm, but at hamburger joints at noon.
So they did. But amazingly, a few parents objected.
If this had been any other state, parents would have been too cowed to object, cuz...uh... "Kids are perfectly equipped to know what's what from age five, right? So if we wants dis, yew cain't stop us!"
The Florida legislature thought about that. We don't let kids drink before age 18, so the precedent for restricting kids from some things is universally recognized, eh? So they passed a law barring businesses from staging drag shows for kids.
Can you predict what happened next? Of course you can! A hamburger joint called "Hamburger Mary's" sued. Cuz they wuz makin' bank from all the freaks bringin' dere kids to drag shows, eh?
Just kidding: the ACLU or some other communist front group offered to sue FOR them.
The first federal judge agreed with the drag-show entrepreneurs that barring kids from the shows was an absolutely intolerable infringement on duh freaks' free-speech rights. The state appealed, and a 3-judge panel from the 11th Circuit upheld the lower court, 2-1.
The state appealed again, this time to the U.S. Supreme Court, which sent the case back to the Circuit Court for re-hearing.
This time the full 11th considered the case, and voted 8-5 to uphold the Florida law.
Now unless you're a leftist con-artist, you admit that legislators have established that adults have the right to establish different rules for kids. You may not agree with that, but it's settled law. You're welcome to junk it if you like. But the freaks argued that the law was "unconstitutionally vague," and that flew with the first two courts.
What's funny is how the leftist judges who dissented objected to the majority opinion. Obama-appointed judge Robin Rosenbaum ignored the notion the long-standing idea that adults can establish different rules for kids, instead pushing the opposite notion, that since we have "freedom of speech" we must let kids watch sex shows.
Surely Rosenbaum knew this was horseshit, but she did it anyway, wailing that the law was a “Titanic-sized iceberg of chilling power” against freedom of speech.
No, leftist shill, no more than laws against underage drinking restricts adults, eh?
She went on to argue that citizens could only learn whether a law prohibits their speech "by taking a wild guess, presenting their speech, and then seeing if they get arrested and face imprisonment, thousands of dollars in fines, and loss of their business license.”
Utter horseshit: just don't do drag shows for kids. Not a tough concept, even for a leftist.
Wait, maybe it IS too tough for leftists to grasp.
